I am Frank Giustra and this is my personal Blog, where I share with you some of the lessons I have learnt in life, books I have read, my thoughts and opinions on current affairs and finance as well as insights from fascinating people I have met, and adventures I have had. It is also a place for me to share stories about my passion for food, films and travel, recipes and tips from my kitchen as well as news from some of the incredible initiatives my philanthropic foundations are working on.

I have been lucky enough to have a long and expansive career. I grew up as the son of Italian immigrants who moved to Canada before I was born, and started my career in the investment banking sector before realizing my entrepreneurial spirit and founding various companies including Lionsgate Entertainment. I'm CEO of the Fiore Group, a firm with a diverse portfolio of assets and investments.

A good deal of my time and resource now goes into supporting charities within both my international and domestic charity foundations as well as organizations I have co-founded.

      America's Geopolitical Blunders

The U.S. Is Making China Great Again. In the grand theater of global politics, we’re watching a show that is both tragedy and farce. In case you haven’t noticed, the world order as we knew it is dead as a dodo. History is unfolding in real time, and the transition to a new order is becoming more messy, chaotic, and perilous by the week. As someone who’s spent years in the trenches of conflict resolution and refugee resettlement, I know that power shifts don’t come neatly packaged—they involve missteps, surprises, and unintended consequences. These days, the United States is flexing its muscles at every turn. But these flexes aren’t strengthening America. Instead, they’re inadvertently making China stronger.

Paper Promises Meet Physical Truth: How Shanghai Stole the Gold Crown

For decades, the world’s gold trade revolved around two cities: London and New York. They were the twin pillars of postwar finance—one steeped in Savile Row tradition and quiet deals, the other all skyscrapers, caffeine, and Wall Street adrenaline. That’s exactly why, in my twenties, I packed up and moved to London to open an office for Yorkton Securities, a small Canadian brokerage that financed junior mining deals. Back then, London and New York were where the action was.

      Is Bitcoin Really "Digital Gold"?

I have nothing against Bitcoin. It’s a fascinating experiment, a volatile speculative asset and, for some, a lucrative trade. I do have a beef, however, with the Bitcoin maximalists, who’ve transformed a digital asset into a dogma and whose self-serving prophecies threaten to burn the unsophisticated investor.

Indulging in pasta in Italy uncovers how politics affect our waistlines

As an Italian, my love for Italian food runs deep.I even make my own olive oil in Orvieto, Italy, and every time I travel there, the first thing I do is enjoy a plate of local pasta. I find myself eating more pasta in Italy than I do in Canada — it just tastes better!

      Harvest Time in Orvieto

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. And I don’t mean with the kids jingle belling. I’m referring to the annual olive oil harvest at our Domenica Fiore olive oil estate in Orvieto, Italy.

      An Interview with Chat

In just a few months the question-and-answer chatbot ChatGPT (Chat) has become very popular.  With Chat averaging about 100 million users per day, it seems everyone’s talking about it. My friends are sending me notes pointing out examples of Chat’s impressive capabilities, so I logged onto the webpage to see what all the fuss was about.

There is no better day than Christmas to pause and reflect and hope for humanity

“We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love … and then we return home.” — Aboriginal proverb quoted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2011

America’s Oldest Continuously Operating Victory Garden

Throughout my life, I have found that maintaining a positive outlook has helped me achieve many good things. At the risk of sounding like a self-help book author, I will only say that, when I have put ideas out there that I truly believe in and that are for the benefit of others, they generally come together.
